Synthesia and Blooper both make video with AI, and that is most of what they share. Synthesia is built to put a presenter on screen: an AI avatar speaking your script, in your brand, in more than 140 languages. Blooper is built to make films: shots of characters, products and places, planned from a brief and approved frame by frame. If you are choosing between them, the first question is which kind of video you need.

What each one makes

Synthesia turns a document, a slide deck or a link into a video with an avatar and a voiceover, with motion graphics and generated B-roll around it. Synthesia says 90% of the Fortune 100 use it. Its strength is scale: one script, many languages, a consistent presenter.

Blooper makes the kind of video a production crew would: an ad, a product film, a campaign cut. You write a brief in plain words, the way you would brief a crew. It asks the one question that would otherwise cost a day of wrong shots. It shows you stills to judge, and only the frames you keep become clips, in the order of the cut. When the client writes back on a frame, the shots that note touches update, and the earlier versions are kept.

Models

Synthesia runs its own avatar engines, Express-1 and Express-2, and offers generated B-roll in its editor. Blooper uses other labs’ video and image models, listed with their prices on our pricing page. Neither offers the other’s core model: Blooper has no talking avatars, and Synthesia is not built around cinematic shot generation.

Pricing

Synthesia sells plans with monthly credits. As of October 2026: a free Basic plan with a watermark, Starter at $19 a month or $14 billed yearly, Pro at $89 or $59, and Enterprise by quote. Its pricing page says the monthly allowance resets, and credits you buy separately last 12 months.

Blooper has no subscription. You buy prepaid credits, one credit is one cent, and they never expire. Every model’s price is published before you start.

Teams and publishing

Synthesia plans come with editor seats and guests who can comment, and Enterprise adds live collaboration, Brand Kits, roles, approvals and SSO. Its publishing is a real strength for training teams: share a link or an embed, export SCORM for a learning platform, and see viewer analytics.

In Blooper, credits belong to the team, so one purchase covers everyone, and guests can be invited to comment on a project.

Synthesia requires a live consent recording from the person before it makes a personal avatar of them, and limits how stock avatars may be used in paid ads and broadcast. That is a careful policy, and worth knowing about if you plan to use a real person’s likeness.

Memory

Blooper adds creative memory across projects: short notes and rules about how you, your team and each client work, which the agent reads before it plans a shot. Creative memory is in early access: it runs on Blooper’s own team first, and a team admin switches it on when it reaches them.

The short version

Choose Synthesia when a presenter needs to explain something, in many languages, at scale. Choose Blooper when you need a film: planned shots, stills first, every version kept, and a memory of each client.

Choose Blooper if

  • you need a film, an ad or a product shot, not a person talking to camera
  • you want to approve stills before any clip is paid for, and keep every version
  • you want credits that never expire instead of a monthly allowance

Choose Synthesia if

  • you need a presenter explaining something, in many languages, at scale
  • you make training videos and need SCORM, analytics and an approvals workflow
  • you want an avatar of yourself or a colleague, made with their consent
